That is where RSW gets its moon and its flower.
So, let's take the obvious. Moon. Flower. Can you see them both? Together? Not at first... but, like those allusions, this watch offers so much more.
What is really nice about this version of the new Formula 1 is the clean but attractive face that is very pleasing to look at and use. See the image of another new for 2009 Tag Heuer Formula 1 watch, the Grande Date Chronograph. This watch just feels so cluttered and contradictory to the point of this timepiece. Sure it looks cool, but I wouldn't want to live with it each day. The Formula 1 Grande Date has a large subsidiary seconds dial with an integrated big date. It is hard to see the big date in the images (how ironic), but it is at the 6 o'clock position. The hands on the face are totally new for the watch line, and I think I like them. The best part of the dial are the raised hour numerals and indexes. They have a rich amount of Superluminova so that they will glow. This of course is on the black faced model. The white faced model is basically all lume, with the numerals and markers being in black.Read more ›
How I wish I could detail everything that goes into the manufacturing and construction of beautiful A. Lange & Sohne watches. What I have experienced, while in depth, feels like merely glimpse into the entire process. What I really saw was the major steps and processes involved in the construction, decoration, and assembly of watch movements. Realize that the entire process is high complex, regimented, and time consuming. Dozens of people can be involved in the manufacture of just one watch movement, and that is just the movement. Lange is a movement maker, which means the rest of the watches are produced by other companies to Lange's specifications. These other parts include the case, dial, strap, and other housing elements of the watches. Lange designs and provides detailed specifications to expert providers that supply these necessary parts. For example, the available bracelet on certain Lange watches is supplied by a top jewelry maker, and are finer than most any watch bracelet you'll ever see or wear. Companies that do make everything that goes into a watch are known to be "vertically integrated," a status only possible with thousands upon thousands of employees (i.e. The Swatch Group). With just over 500 employees, A. Lange & Sohne sticks to what it does best.
That's it! Once I get 750 valid confirmed comments, UPDATE: the winner will be chosen at random at the end of this June. Also, for legal reasons, all participants must be in the US (or have a place in the US where the watch can be shipped to). Sorry everyone else! If you don't win, you can still buy the watch, and Gnomon Watches does ship internationally.Read more ›

The more time I spend with innovative independent watch makers, the most I find myself being drawn to that world. Nubeo is one of my newest favorites because founder Ivan Castro is first a jewelry man, second a watch maker. The sentiment translates into a totally unique interpretation into watch design as well as construction ethic. He is a humble guy, but has a no tolerance attitude for deviations from his strict concepts of quality in both aesthetic and construction. These are a few watches from one of his first lines of watches, the Jellyfish. There is also the Black Jellyfish, and Medusse (which is the women's line). Then for the ceramic built versions, they are called the Keramik watches. All of these are based on the same type of design. The Jellyfish looks comes out best when you turn the watch on its side and look at the outline shape. Looks like the profile of a jellyfish right? All Nubeo watches has this theme of "organic" influence, and it works really well for the brand.Read more ›

So what do I think about the watch overall? I think it is a conservatively styled, handsome watch, that has a feeling of quality easily capable of many good years of wrist service. Though it is not the type of watch that hardcore watch aficionado's will lust for, aside from the historic and collectible significance of it. You know, Bill Clinton started a modern trend with wrist watches in wearing an inexpensive Timex Ironman during his presidency. His doing so was a clever tactic to appeal to the "average person," (even though it pissed off other politicians and foreign dignitaries). The Timex was admittedly an ugly watch, and Clinton coincidentally is currently a major high-end watch collector. I think that Obama is doing something similar, but trying to be more tasteful about it. The Jorg Gray 6500 won't offend anyone, and has a suitable amount of function, style, and classic demeanor - especially for a politician, or the president. Plus the watch is analog, not digital. It makes total sense for him to wear it, and I think he made the right choice to keep it on his wrist. The decision he made was a good one also for Jorg Gray, and put this timepiece forever in the place as a relic of the times, and all that his presidency means to many different groups. So once again, if you want to own the "the President's watch," you can, and you should have no qualms about it. It is not the last wrist watch you'll ever get, but a fun and meaningful addition to your collection.
These aren't quite on par with European tourbillon movements in terms of performance, construction, or accuracy, but they are much cheaper. The SG3824 (without the moon phase) is ,600.00 and the SG3826 moon phase is ,999.00. These aren't cheap prices by any means, but you can't get a European tourbillon based movement watch for under ,000 (average price of ,000 - 0,000). Like I said earlier, 70% of the quality for 30% of the price (or some other ratio that communicates the same idea). Having said that, the designs aren't half bad. There is unmistakable Asian art and architectural influence in the designs of the two watches, especially in the face and case construction. Looking closely at the watches you can't tell that things are not quite as finely milled or cut as in European watches, but it is pretty good. It will take a while - if it happens at all - for Chinese and other Asian high-end watches to catch up with European watch making standards that have been set for decades, though this is a good step in that direction.

The newest AskMen.com watch review by me is up. This time it is on an unusual suspect, a TW Steel watch - a maker whose claim to fame is being in the business of 'big watches' (literally). The TW 1 model is part of the "Canteen" collection. It was not until I was almost done with the review that I realized the reason for the name. It has to do with the protective diver's crown. Read and you'll see if you still don't get it. Being so used to what the crown is actually for, it took me a while to realize it. Goes to show that the people in marketing at TW Steel are either not big watch aficionados, of can think outside the box really well.
While I feel that some of the current Bremont watches are bland looking (though pleasing and functional), the new Supermarine 500 does not come across that way. Sometimes you want a diving watch to be more conservative looking and focus on doing its job well rather than being too avant garde. That is why diving watches are important — the watch lover community evaluates them to see how well a given watch maker is able to represent the genre.Read more ›
Inside is the same Swiss ETA 2892A2 automatic mechanical movement powering the watch, while the shiny black alligator strap works well. I think a brown strap would look even a bit nicer against the rose gold, don't you think? The Bell & Ross BR01-92 Gold Ingot Limited Edition watch is available in select place to select people. This is the gold watch to own for people who would not otherwise shell out for a gold watch but suddenly must do so. There you have it, don't make me yell "gold" again.
